Filter Media
TMC Bio-Rings
•
1" (210m2/m3) and 1 1/2" (130m2/m3) Bio-Rings have excellent
flow through characteristics, making them ideal for trickle filter applications.
• Designed to give a large, accessible surface area which is easily contacted by the water (usually falling downwards) and gas, whilst avoiding clogging.
• Made from blue polypropylene.
• Positively buoyant.

BactoBalls

bactoballs are the optimum filter medium for biological filters. They can be used in trickle filters and denitrification reactors, and in larger aquaculture systems. The flat plate construction with clear paths between the plates ensure a very even distribution of water, and means that the bactoballs will not clump or clog. The large surface area of 300 m2 / m3 allows for a high concentration of active bacterial biomass.

MultiBalls
Multiballs
are a plastic filter medium in which the biological function can be
combined with a desired chemical filtration. They resemble large bactoballs
(44mm Ø). Their properties ensure a large surface area and good
water distribution. The secret of the multiball is that it consists
of two half spheres that can be easily separated. The outer surface
provides a perfect site for the formation of bacterial colonies for
biological filtration whilst inside the multiball is a cavity which
can be filled with numerous types of chemical filter media. Depending
on the requirements of the aquarium’s inhabitants, multiballs
can be filled with activated carbon (carbolit), antiphos, zeolite, hydrocarbonate,
or peat granules. Thus the multiball can function as an individual biological
or chemical filter material for use in trickle filters or in canister
filters.

Cerapore
Cerapore
is a micro-porous ceramic filter media for use in bio-filters. It is
produced from pure ceramic fired at high temperature and is free of
residues so it can be safely used in fresh and salt water aquaria. cerapore
has an enormous internal surface area that is fully available for bacterial
colonisation, and its open pores are so formed that the media is nonclogging
and stays clear, even under long term use. This results in high biological
waste reduction rates in a very small volume.
cerapore may be used in trickle filters or in submerged filters. When
used submersed, anaerobic areas may be formed in the centre of the media,
which may help with nitrate reduction. Under ideal conditions, 1 litre
of cerapore will filter 200 litres of fresh or salt water aerobically.

BioSponge
BioSponge
are cylinder shaped filter sponges, 25 mm (c. 1”) high and 25
mm (c. 1”) in diameter and can be used in trickle or submersed
filters. A large surface area is created by the pore structure of 60
ppi. biosponge is particularly suited to highly loaded filter systems
as it can be rinsed and re-used.
