Curing Live Rock

We have recently upgraded our live rock facility and are now able to cure over two tons of live rock at a time , on top of that we have holding tanks for the cured live rock which holds another ton .

The tanks are seperate 10x2x2 tanks , each tank has a massive turnover of 30,000 litres an hour and are individualy skimmed with Turboflotor 5000 Twins.

When buying your live rock from us , you recieve it fully cured , what does that mean ? This is what we do .

We have an agreement with our supplier that the rock will be recieving does not sit around for too long , on the beach , on the collectors floor or on the back of a truck , you would be surprised how long some rock sits around for before appearing in your local shops tanks , this means that we get less die-off than a lot of rock , it gets here faster so more life is preserved.

After recieving the rock , we inspect each piece , and life which has died , or any problem critters are removed and sumped , we often get some monsters of the deep giving us a scare :

Each piece of rock is then washed in saltwater .

The live rock is then placed in the curing tanks , where it will stay for on average one month , during that month we do regular 500 litre water changes and add on a daily basis Seachem's stability which adds aerobic , anaerobic and facultative bacteria , basically speeding up the natural cycle.

When the nitrite level has returned to zero , the skimmers are turned off once a day for a few hours and we add live phytoplankton to the tanks , this keeps the small organisms happy .

The rock is then available for sale .

You will recive the rock bagged up in strong shipping boxes and ready to add to your aquarium at a day that you choose.
